Privacy policy
Last updated: 12 June 2026
DanceCompas (“we”, “us”) helps dancers discover dance events worldwide and plan their dance year. We collect as little personal data as we can, and this page explains exactly what we hold, why, and your rights — in plain language. The data controller is INVERT LLC (Wyoming, USA). Questions any time: hello@dancecompas.com.
What we collect
- Browsing without an account: nothing personal is stored on our servers. Your circuits, saved events and filter preferences live only in your own browser (see the cookie policy).
- If you create an account: your email address, display name, and any profile details you choose to add (home city, dance styles, bio, Instagram handle, profile photo). You control your profile's visibility with the “public profile” setting.
- If you use community features: content you submit — reviews, “going” status, travel-buddy opt-ins, event submissions, organizer page edits.
- If you claim an organizer page: your claim request, email, and verification status.
- Technical data: our hosting provider processes IP addresses and request logs as part of serving the site securely (fraud and abuse prevention). We do not run advertising trackers or sell data — to anyone, ever.
Why we use it (legal bases under GDPR)
- To provide the service (contract): accounts, profiles, circuits, claims, bookings.
- To keep the platform safe (legitimate interest): moderation, abuse and fraud prevention, security logs.
- To contact you about your account (contract / legitimate interest): e.g. claim approvals, booking confirmations. We do not send marketing email without your consent.
Who processes data for us
We use a small number of service providers (“processors”):
- Vercel — website hosting (request logs, IP addresses).
- Supabase — database and authentication for accounts and community features.
- Namecheap — email forwarding for our contact addresses.
- Payment providers (Square, PayPal) — when bookings launch, payments are processed directly by these providers; we never see or store full card numbers. Their privacy policies apply to the payment itself.
Some embedded third-party content loads from its own servers when a page displays it: OpenStreetMap (map tiles), Open-Meteo (weather — receives only city coordinates, never your identity or precise location), and Spotify (music players). These providers may see your IP address when your browser fetches their content; see the cookie policy for details.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and the European Union under standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
How long we keep data
Account data is kept while your account exists and deleted when you delete your account. Reviews and submissions you delete are removed from display immediately. Server logs rotate automatically on short cycles set by our hosting provider.
Your rights
Wherever you live — and especially under the GDPR if you're in the EU/EEA/UK — you can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to restrict or object to processing. Email hello@dancecompas.com and we'll respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Children
DanceCompas is not directed at children. You must be at least 16 to create an account.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes affecting account holders, notify you by email or an in-app notice.
