Privacy policy

DanceCompas (“we”, “us”) helps dancers discover dance events worldwide and plan their dance year. We collect as little personal data as we can, and this page explains what we hold, why, the legal basis, and your rights. The data controller is INVERT LLC (Wyoming, USA). What we collect

• Browsing without an account: nothing personal is stored on our servers. Your circuits, saved events and filters live only in your browser (see the cookie policy).
• Account & profile: your email and (if you add them) display name, home city, dance styles, level, lead/follow role, bio, socials and profile/gallery photos. You control visibility with the “public profile” setting. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email, name and avatar from Google.
• Community activity: reviews, Going/Interested, follows, practice-partner opt-ins, event submissions and organizer-page edits.
• Schools, instructors & organizers: your page details and, if you claim an existing listing, your claim request, contact email and verification status.
• Bookings & loyalty: class/event reservations, your DanceCard stamp balance, and — for schools — free-class billing records. Payments are handled by our payment providers; we store a booking record and a payment reference, never full card numbers.
• Usage & technical data: our host processes IP addresses and request logs to serve the site securely. With your consent, we also collect analytics (see cookies). We do not sell your data — to anyone, ever.

Why we use it (legal bases under GDPR)

• To provide the service (contract): accounts, profiles, circuits, claims, bookings, loyalty, payments.
• To keep the platform safe (legitimate interest): moderation, abuse and fraud prevention, security logs, basic first-party page-view counts.
• To contact you about your account (contract): claim approvals, booking confirmations. We don't send marketing email without your consent.
• Analytics & affiliate cookies (consent): loaded only if you accept in the cookie banner, and withdrawable any time.

Who processes data for us

We rely on a small set of service providers (“processors”/recipients):

• Vercel — website hosting (request logs, IP addresses).
• Supabase — database, authentication and file storage for accounts and community features.
• Google — “Sign in with Google” (only if you use it).
• PayPal & Square — payment processing for subscriptions and bookings. They process the payment directly under their own privacy policies; we never see full card numbers.
• Resend — transactional email (e.g. confirmations, claim codes).
• Google Analytics — usage analytics, only with your consent.
• Travelpayouts — affiliate/partner tracking, only with your consent.

Some embedded content loads from its own servers when a page shows it: Geoapify and OpenStreetMap/CARTO (map tiles), Open-Meteo (weather — receives only a city's coordinates, never your identity), and Spotify (music players). These providers may see your IP when your browser fetches their content; see the cookie policy.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in the United States and the European Union under standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

How long we keep data

Account data is kept while your account exists and deleted when you delete your account. Content you delete (reviews, submissions) is removed from display immediately. Booking and billing records are kept as long as needed for the service and any legal/accounting obligations. Server logs rotate on short cycles set by our host.

Your rights

Wherever you live — and especially under the GDPR/UK GDPR if you're in the EU/EEA/UK — you can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent (e.g. for analytics) at any time. Email hello@dancecompas.com and we'll respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

Children

DanceCompas is not directed at children. You must be at least 16 to create an account.

Changes

If we change this policy meaningfully, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes affecting account holders, notify you by email or an in-app notice.
